Interview Questions – John Vlasic – Love For Rock
How did you become involved in this crazy world of music?
Music has always been a part of my life. From the first moment I heard the sound of an electric guitar I thought, "that’s for me". Ever since I’ve been building off the feeling rock music gives you. As an artist I love the freedom that music provides, and how it lets you express yourself and connect with others. This mentality drives me to be part of the movement and strive to create songs that evoke emotion.
Who are your inspirations and what was the inspiration behind the album?
As an avid fan of music, I’ve absorbed elements of technique spanning throughout the ages. Listening to bands of the past taught me about the introspection and rebellion of the sixties and seventies as well as the energy and excitement of eighties rock. Growing up playing guitar through the nineties gave me the direction to be myself and convey the attitude I had learned in my own music. My first album is a reflection of my favorite sounds and an over all love and appreciation for rock and roll.
Could you tell our readers about the band and what makes you different from other artists?
As a solo artist, I create songs out of my own ideas and experiences. My vocals and guitar have been the catalyst to my musical career. I’ve been able to elevate the music by connecting with other studio musicians and letting them add their own strengths to the drums, bass and keys. My attitude towards music is to hold nothing back and this all out attitude delivers exciting music.
Tell me about the album?
Right out of the gates, “Love For Rock” dives into high-energy nonstop rock and roll. The album has a variety of style stretching from heavy blues riffs, to stadium rock anthems. Melodic licks and atmospheric melodies provide a further range of sounds. A strong portrayal of my musical roots comes across in this first album. From start to finish the album runs on emotion looking to make you move.
Where was it recorded, who produced it and how long did the process take?
The album began in Chicago, where I was living and working on music. Going in and out of a small studio I began to learn my process as an artist. Midway through the project I relocated to Colorado and got into a studio in Boulder. It was here that the album came together through my vision and collaboration from friends and studio pros. A year of hard work and trial and error finished with a great collection of music.
What’s in store for the future?
Since the release of “ Love For Rock” I have written a dozen new tracks. I continue to develop my style and build off my strengths and am very excited about working further with these new songs. Heavy guitars and driving beats will always fuel my need to make new rock music. New experiences in life and my surroundings provide me with inspiration and ways to tap into feelings and desires to further create lyrics and songs that reflect my personal journey of music.
